LASU advises staff, students to restrict movement over Iba Oro Rites

The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) has issued an official notice to all staff and students regarding the upcoming annual Oro traditional rites in the Iba Kingdom.

The notification, signed by Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, follows formal communication from the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom.

The Oro festival is scheduled to hold over a nine-day period, with traditional rites specifically taking place between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, and Friday, August 29, 2025.

To ensure the safety and well-being of university community members within Iba and its environs, management has directed as follows:

  1. All staff and students are advised to avoid unnecessary movement within the Iba community during the stipulated hours on both days.
  2. Academic, administrative, and personal activities should be scheduled outside the affected timeframe.
  3. Individuals are urged to exercise caution, remain law-abiding, and comply strictly with the directive.

The university reaffirms its commitment to the safety and welfare of its community and encourages full cooperation during this period.
