The Director-General, Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), Biodun Onayele has emphasised the importance of exposing students across the State to the history of Lagos as well as acquainting them with the operations of an archives institution.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries of Education Districts III and IV, Onayele informed his hosts that LASRAB is a “one-stop shop” for persons, groups, and organisations seeking information about Lagos State.
He added that the Bureau is open for excursions and facility tours to further expose students to aggregated information about Lagos and records of developmental strides in the State.
Dr Onayele, therefore, implored the Tutors-General to encourage all the schools under their purview to visit the Bureau as part of their excursion activities, advising that Senior Secondary School students should be given priority to enable them appreciate the history of Lagos before leaving school.
The DG also disclosed that the LASRAB advocacy programme will be conducted in the six Education Districts in the State to ensure that all students in Lagos benefit from the opportunity.
The respective Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries of Education Districts III and IV, Ms Titilayo Solarin and Mr Hakeem Kosoko, commended LASRAB for taking such initiative at a time when the history, culture, and heritage of the State are drastically losing attention, especially among youths.
