The Kwara State government has denied reports that it was conducting a screening exercise for recently disengaged teachers from its service.

These persons popularly called ‘sunset teachers’ were employed in the twighlight of the Abdulfatah Ahmed administration in 2015.

His successor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq recently sacked them and began a new recruitment exercise.

A statement denying a purported screening for the sacked workers was signed by the State Universal Basic Education Board spokesperson, Ameenat Abiola Atere.

The statement reads, “This is to inform the general public that the information flying about concerning the screening for the disengaged SunSet Teachers was just a rumor whose authenticity could not be ascertained.

“Neither the Management of Kwara SUBEB nor the State Government is organizing any form of screening for the disengaged SunSet Teachers as indicated in the fake news which has since gone viral in social media.

“The General Public is hereby implored to please ignore the fake news in circulation as there was no screening of such organized for the sunset teachers by any authority or representatives of the Kwara State Government.”
