The Kano State Government has announced an indefinite postponement of the resumption date for both primary and secondary schools for the 2024/2025 academic session.
While the government cited “urgent reasons” for the postponement, it did not provide specific details.
The announcement comes shortly after the Edo State Government also postponed school resumption due to the rising petrol prices and the economic challenges faced by parents and guardians.
Most schools in Nigeria were scheduled to resume on Monday, September 9. However, in a statement released on Saturday, Balarabe Kiru, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education, informed pupils, students, and parents of the postponement of the previously scheduled resumption dates of September 8 and 9, 2024.
Kiru stated that the Commissioner for Education, Umar Doguwa, would soon announce a new resumption date. He added, “This decision is based on urgent reasons aimed at enhancing the learning environment for our children. A new date for resumption will be communicated in due course.”
