In a sweeping disciplinary move aimed at upholding academic integrity, the management of Kaduna Polytechnic has expelled 63 students and suspended 36 others over various academic infractions, including examination malpractices and fraudulent admissions.

The decision was disclosed in a circular signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Academic Affairs), Abdullahi Muhammad, and was communicated to both staff and students.

It followed recommendations by the Academic Board after thorough reviews of reports submitted by two panels — the Fraudulent Admission and Related Matters Investigation Committee (FARMIC) and the Examination Misconduct Cases and Malpractice Committee (EMCMC).

The panels unearthed multiple infractions across departments, with FARMIC identifying at least five students who illegally secured admission into the polytechnic. These included Essien Margret and Maryam Nasir, whose studentship has now been withdrawn.

On its part, EMCMC indicted over 70 students for various forms of examination misconduct across departments such as Mass Communication, Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, and Architecture.

Among those expelled are Lawrence Samuel Anto (Building Technology), Fauziya Abdulrahman Buba (Mass Communication) and Ibrahim Muhammed Nazeer (Civil Engineering).

Some others, including Joseline Beauty and Muazu Umar, were handed suspensions of varying lengths, based on the severity of their misconduct.

However, not all accused students were found culpable. Three students, including Abubakar Ibrahim from the Computer Science Department, were exonerated after investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The polytechnic reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing academic discipline and maintaining its standards of learning. “We remain resolute in our efforts to sanitize the academic environment and ensure that integrity is never compromised,” the management stated.

This development marks a significant step in the institution’s broader efforts to restore credibility and deter academic malpractice within its community.
