The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced the dissolution of the College of Education, Minna, as its structure has been absorbed by the newly established Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna (AKUM). In this transition, all staff of the former college, including Provost Professor Muhammad Yakubu Auna, have been directed to report to Professor Muhammad Aliyu Paiko, the Vice-Chancellor of AKUM.

Governor Bago made this statement at the university’s inaugural matriculation ceremony for 86 students recently admitted to its Faculty of Education. Emphasizing the integration, he said, “There is no more College of Education standing alone. Anyone working for College of Education, Minna yesterday is now a staff of Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna.”

Bago outlined plans to establish multiple colleges under AKUM, including Colleges of Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, and Sciences, as part of the university’s expansion efforts.

Additionally, AKUM will soon host the Kent State University Study Centre, a collaboration aimed at enhancing agricultural research. A further partnership with Brazil will introduce a dedicated research institute focusing on agriculture and innovation, funded by 1 percent of the state’s revenue.

In a gesture of support, the governor awarded a scholarship of N1 million to each of the matriculating students and allocated an additional N500 million to AKUM to accelerate the development of essential facilities.
