Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has opened up about her struggles with family pressure, her decision to drop out of school, and the regrets that followed.
The “Early Momo” crooner revealed that although she does not regret abandoning her university education, she wishes she had pursued her music career much earlier instead of yielding to her father’s insistence that she write the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
“I have never regretted not completing school. I wish I never went to school. I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret. I wish I never wrote JAMB. I wish I ran away when my dad was forcing me to write JAMB,” she said in an interview with Hip TV.
According to her, her father’s disapproval of her decision to quit school led to a major fallout in the family.
“When I told my parents that I wasn’t interested in going to school anymore, my dad asked me to leave his house. At one point, he even disowned me,” she said.
GoodGirl LA explained that she eventually left home at 17 to focus on music, adding that her family only reconciled with her after she began gaining recognition in the Nigerian music industry.
