The senate of the University of Ibadan in strict adherence to the directive of the federal government has appointed an Ibadan-born Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola as acting Vice-Chancellor for the institution.
He replaces Professor Idowu Olayinka whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the university expires today.
Ekanola is the incumbent Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic at the university.
EduCeleb.com recalls that the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu through the National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed that an acting Vice-Chancellor be appointed to fill the vacuum since the process for the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor has been reported to be controversial.
At the senate meeting held on Monday, 30th November, 2020, it was agreed on that the selection for acting Vice-Chancellor be done by-election in which members all agreed and the nomination was made.
Among the senate members nominated for the election were deputies to Olayinka and other senior academics.
Aside Ekanola, others are Professor Olanike Adeyemo who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships as well as Professor A. Oluleye who is a former Dean, Faculty of Technology.
Others are Professor Adigun Agbaje who is a Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and
Professor Gbemisola Oke, another former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic.
Fresh accreditation was done and members voted using a secret ballot process.
The results after the voting process ended with Ekanola having 275 votes, Adeyemo with 13 votes, Oluleye with 80 votes, Agbaje with 15 votes and Oke with 14 votes.

He hails from Aragba Compound, Ayeye, Ibadan and he was the last born of the last Baale of Omi-Adio, Chief Adeyanju Alade Anthony.
