Educationist, Bolaji Adana dies at 80

A Nigerian academic and activist, Bolaji Adana is dead.

Professor Adana died in Ilorin Wednesday evening.

Family members confirmed his death on Thursday, saying that the don and Proprietor, Royalty Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, died after a protracted illness.

Adana was a foundation staff, University of Ilorin, where he retired as an Associate Professor.

He was at Tai Solarin University of Education as a visiting Professor and he was at the American University of West Africa, Gambia, where he was appointed Professor and pioneer Provost, College of Management and Information Technology, CMIT.

Adana would be mostly remembered for his landmark contribution to education, learning, teaching and formulation of education policies.

He also took part in academic union activism with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He was one of the famous 49 academic illegally sacked by University of Ilorin for agitating for better welfare for university teachers and better learning environment in the school.

They were, however, reinstated by the Supreme Court in a landmark judgement against the school.

Some of his colleagues reached said they are still in a state of shock but would make statements later.

The family also said that burial arrangement would be announced at later date.
