Chrisland becomes first in Africa to win eStars Awards

Five students from Chrisland Schools have become the first in Africa to receive the eStars award, an innovative educational esports platform from the United Kingdom. The award ceremony took place during the launch of eStars in Nigeria, held at the British High Commission in Lagos.

The distinguished students—Khadijah Alege, Khalid Olatunji, Brian Leghemo, Adeolu Adewumi, and Ayomide Ojo—were recognised for their exceptional performance. Eleven-year-old Khadijah Alege, a Year 7 student, was notably honored as the top recipient among the five awardees.

The success of Chrisland students is a testament to the school’s commitment to academic excellence.

Notably, Chrisland students have achieved significant milestones on global platforms. For instance, Mmesomachukwu Okonkwo was the top candidate worldwide in English as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement) at the 2022 Cambridge IGCSE, and Oluwabukolami Adeyemi secured the highest score globally in law, also receiving the High Achievement Award for Cambridge AS Level Psychology in 2022. Additionally, Zara Sule won the Gold Medal at the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2023 (Senior Category).

Mrs. Ibironke Adeyemi, Managing Director of Chrisland Schools Limited, applauded the partnership with eStars, emphasizing the importance of innovative and engaging educational methods in the current century.

She hosted the eStars team to a dinner, expressing pride in Chrisland’s contributions to education in Nigeria and Africa over the past 47 years.

At the dinner, 10-year-old Falomo Ernest, a Year 7 student, praised the eStars platform for its engaging and educational features, which he found beneficial for developing cooperative skills, quick decision-making, and exploring new concepts.

The school’s PTA chairman, Reverend ThankGod Oganwo, also commended the initiative, assuring parents’ full cooperation. Mags Byrne, Founder and CEO of eStars, highlighted that Chrisland was the first school approached for the pilot program in Nigeria, aiming to integrate esports into the school curriculum to teach essential skills such as teamwork, innovation, and leadership.

Segun Ogunsola, Executive Head of School Academics, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, noting that eStars aligns with Chrisland’s pursuit of providing the best education and developing globally competitive skills in learners. He assured that child protection and safeguarding measures are in place to ensure a safe online environment for students.

Overall, the collaboration between Chrisland Schools and eStars marks a significant step towards revolutionizing education in Nigeria by integrating technology and esports into learning, preparing students for prosperous careers in the rapidly growing gaming industry.
