Benue State University (BSU) has changed from the 4-point grading system to the 5-point system.

It said that this followed the University Senate approval of the move.

“This is to inform the general public, particularly students of Benue State University that the meeting of the University Senate, held on Thursday, 5th September, 2019, deliberated on the report of the ad-hoc committee which looked into the clamor for reversal from 4-point to a 5-point grading system,” BSU Registrar, Mfaga Modom wrote in a statement.

The Senate resolved that the results of students who were admitted in the 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 Academic Sessions should be recalculated from the four (4) point grading system to the five (5) point grading system.

Also, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)/Chairman, Senate Business Committee should work with all the Faculty and Departmental Examination Officers to recalculate the results of the affected students and report to Senate within two (2) weeks.

However, freshmen of the 2018/2019 Academic Session, all Medical Students, 500 level Students of the Faculty of Law and all other five hundred (500) level students who are not affected by the four (4) point grading system should be called back to the University to resume normal academic activities. The resumption date for these categories of students is Monday, 9th September, 2019.
