A bill proposing the establishment of a Federal University of Technology in Lagos has successfully passed its first reading in the House of Representatives, EduCeleb.com learnt.

The bill, introduced by Honourable James Abiodun Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and representative of the Ikeja Federal Constituency, was read during the House plenary session on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, just before the House adjourned for the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The proposed university is slated to be located in Badagry. Honourable Faleke explained that the motivation behind the bill is to promote development and sustainability in technological advancement through education, addressing the needs of Nigeria’s growing population.

He emphasised that establishing the university in Badagry would provide local students with access to quality technology education and help reduce the number of students seeking admission in unauthorized institutions across the border.
