Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh and the Co-Founder of Budgit, Oluseun Onigbinde are among the guests to mentor over 700 school students at an annual Career Mentoring and Life Skills Seminar titled the PEA Academy.
The event which is in its 8th edition would feature various personalities from all walks of life and is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 1st and Thursday, 2nd August, 2018 at Alinco Event Palace, 1 Asuku road, Ijaiye, Alagbado, Lagos from 9am daily.
It is organised by Lagos-based nongovernmental organisation, Pyramid Educational Advancement (PEA) Foundation.
According to the Executive Director of the Ngo, Adedapo Conde, the seminar
PEA Foundation Academy is geared towards equipping senior secondary school students with information and experiences that will guide them in making positive academic, career and life choices.
“The life skills seminar is structured to deliver skills that will ensure that each participant becomes a productive member of society. That is, they become more useful to themselves and to society,” he stated in a press release sent to EduCeleb.com on Saturday.
“Some of the topics treated during the life skills training include Identity, Peer Pressure & Making Choices; Goal Setting; Personal Grooming & Etiquette.
“The career Mentoring / modeling seminar is geared towards exposing senior secondary school students to various career options as well as what they need to know and do to thrive in their career of interest. Through the Academy, young people have also been exposed to accomplished professionals in the society who inspire them to pursue academic excellence.”
Some of the confirmed career mentors include Aderonke Eko-Aderinoye of Agrihub; Bunmi Oniyilo of LUBUNMITHESHOOMEYKER and the Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Public Utilities, Tola Odeyemi.
Aside Mr Bank-Olemoh, other confirmed guest speakers for the event include the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Trade, Industry & Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Mr. Ganiyu Musa and Mrs. Enitan Solarin (MD YOA Insurance Brokers Ltd.).
Mr Conde said over 700 students have registered for the seminar from 60 schools from Alimosho, Ifako-Ijaiye & Agege local government areas of Lagos state and Ado-odo / Ota Local government of Ogun state. Registration & Participation in the seminar is FREE.
He said the event is in line with PEA Foundation’s overarching objective in inspiring and facilitating a healthy reading culture amongst young people by setting-up libraries in underserved communities as well as public (primary and secondary) schools.
Beyond this, the PEA also mentor young people through its various programs such as the book reading club, periodic career and life skills seminars and also our volunteering scheme.
So far P.E.A. Foundation has set-up the Ojokoro community library and 3 public school libraries as well as facilitated the donation of 9,000 books in Lagos State.
The Director revealed that the Lagos State Government was already considering a partnership with the Foundation to replicate book reading club model across the 13 public libraries across the state that are managed by the government.
