The Governing Council of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria on Wednesday announced Kabiru Bala as the new Vice Chancellor of the university.
He is to take over from the incumbent, Ibrahim Garba, whose tenure will end on 30th April, 2020.
Bala is a professor of construction management at the department of Building at ABU Zaria.
His appointment was announced at Arewa House in Kaduna by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, ABU Governing Council, Adamu Fika shortly after the council meeting that deliberated on the selection and appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the university.
His appointment, according to Fika, will take effect from 1st May, 2020.
He used to be a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration); and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies of the University, among many other positions.
This development brings an end to the quest for succession of the current helmsman at the 58 year-old institution.

In the build up to the council’s final decision announced this evening, some candidates either withdrew their candidacy or dropped out.
