The Board of Trustees (BOT) of Bingham University Karu has appointed Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba, as Vice-Chancellor.

The appointment of Prof. Ayuba followed the approval of the recommendations of the University’s Governing Council to the Board of Trustees, chaired by the ECWA President, Rev. (Dr.) Stephen Panya Baba.

A seasoned Professor of Biogeography and Environmental Science, he was the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor is expected to take-over from the incumbent Vice-Chancellor Prof. W. B. Qurix, OFR whose tenure expires on the 8th of January, 2024.

“Professor Ayuba brings with him a wealth of experience in University administration,” the institution said in a statement.

More about Professor Haruna Kuje Ayuba

Ayuba graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Geography in 1989 from Bayero University, Kano and was posted to Borno State in the1989/1990 Batch for his National Youth Service Corps, where he became the first Corps member to have served in the Department of Geography, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

His excellent service during the NYSC year at UNIMAID made the then Head of Department of Geography, Professor GGR Thambyahpillay, recommend him for employment.

He was subsequently employed as Graduate Assistant in the Department of Geography in January 1991 where his career in the University began.

He bagged his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Geography respectively in 1992 and 1998 from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

He rose through the ranks and was promoted to a full Professor of Biogeography/Environmental Science in 2007 in the University of Maiduguri.

In 2014, Ayuba transferred his services to the Nasarawa State University, Keffi where he delivered the university’s 9th Professorial Inaugural Lecture.

His tenure is expected to span the next five years starting from January 2024.
