The Adamawa State House of Assembly has recommended the suspension of the Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, Simon Musa Shashi, for allegedly ordering the unlawful closure of schools in the council.
The resolution was passed on Monday as lawmakers reconvened from recess, following a matter of urgent public importance raised by the Majority Leader, Kate Raymond Mamuno, during plenary.
Mamuno informed the House that the council chairman had shut down schools without any legal authority, a move the lawmakers unanimously described as an abuse of office. They stressed that no public official is empowered to unilaterally close educational institutions.
In its resolution, the Assembly called for a one-month suspension of Hon. Shashi and mandated its Committees on Education and Local Government Affairs to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter and report back within three weeks.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to formally communicate the decision to the Executive Governor for further action.
