ABSU suspends lecturer involved in sex for grades video

The Governing Authorities of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, have suspended Dr. Udochukwu Ndukwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, following his involvement in a controversial sex for grades video clip that surfaced on social media.

The suspension, effective immediately, is set for an initial period of three months, during which Dr. Ndukwe will receive half of his salary.

This action is pending the outcome of an investigation by a panel established to scrutinize the matter. The suspension letter stated:

“Following the disturbing online video clip involving you, trending on social media, which has brought embarrassment to Abia State University, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Governing Authorities, has approved your immediate suspension from duty for three (3) months in the first instance, with half salary, in line with the University conditions of service, pending the conclusion of investigation, for which a panel has been set.”

Background of the incident

The video clip, which became public on July 31, 2024, depicted an incident that occurred on July 5, 2024, at a hotel in Umuahia.

According to reports, Dr. Ndukwe had allegedly demanded sex from a female final year student (name withheld) in exchange for passing a course he teaches.

To expose the predatory lecturer, the student he had allegedly been harassing for over two years collaborated with others secure the evidence by pretending to agree with his advances.

The video showed Dr. Ndukwe naked, further substantiating the allegations against him. It showed him caught pants down, pleading not to be exposed. The lecturer’s lips were also bloodied and he had visible bruises.

Initially, the student had reported the matter to university authorities, but no action was taken until the video went viral, exposing Dr Ndukwe’s actions.

This public exposure prompted immediate action from the university administration.

Compliance and investigation

Dr. Ndukwe has been directed to hand over any university property in his possession to his head of department.

All relevant university authorities have been notified to ensure strict compliance with the suspension terms.

This development underscores ABSU’s commitment to maintaining ethical standards and addressing issues that tarnish the institution’s reputation.
