As the tenure of the incumbent vice-chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun winds down, a hunt has begun to determine his successor.
Already, five professors have been penned down by the university’s Governing Council for the selection process scheduled to begin on Monday.
EduCeleb.com learnt that eight candidates originally applied for the university top job but three had already been eased out.
The five applicants shortlisted include Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, Professor Senapon Bakre, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, Professor Kabiru Akinyemi and Professor Omotayo Awofolu.
Bello, a former acting vice-chancellor of LASU is of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM).
Bakre previously served as Deputy vice-chancellor. He is of the Faculty of Science.
Odusanya is from the Department of Community Health and Primary Health at LASUCOM.
Akinyemi is a former Dean, Students Affairs. He was also a former chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Awofolu, on the other hand is the only non-LASU staff on the list. He teaches at Namibia University of Science and Technology. Prior to going to Namibia, he used to teach at LASU.
In the days ahead, it is expected that the LASU Governing Council led by Professor Adebayo Ninalowo would determine the best of them for the job.
After that, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu would announce the next vice-chancellor.
