No fewer than 17 officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been sentenced to prison for allegedly assisting about 15,000 candidates in forging admission letters to qualify for participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this known on Monday during the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Mobilisation Workshop organised by the NYSC in Abuja.

According to him, the large-scale forgery was uncovered following an internal audit and cross-verification of admission records from various tertiary institutions.

He said, “One day, I ran to your predecessor (referring to the NYSC Director-General) because I couldn’t believe that 15,000 candidates forged admission letters. As I speak with you, some deputy registrars are being tried by the ICPC. Some deputy vice-chancellors, not less than 17, including four JAMB staff, are in prison custody. We took them to ICPC.”

Prof. Oloyede explained that those implicated were currently being prosecuted for forgery and related offences, adding that the Board had strengthened its internal controls to prevent a recurrence.

He cautioned education stakeholders to maintain integrity in their operations, warning: “Those who want to go to jail should do so knowingly, not by accident. Follow the rules, and you will have fewer problems.”

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, has warned against fraudulent practices capable of undermining the credibility of the mobilisation process.

Speaking at the same event, Nafiu decried the rising cases of forged credentials, multiple registrations, and identity theft by unqualified persons seeking to infiltrate the NYSC scheme.

He said such fraudulent actions threaten the integrity of the mobilisation process, which was designed to promote national unity and ensure that only eligible graduates participate in the one-year mandatory service.

The NYSC boss urged all relevant institutions to strengthen their verification systems and collaborate closely with the Corps to safeguard the process from abuse.

Meanwhile, the NYSC has announced that online registration for the 2025 Batch ‘C’ orientation course will run from November 4 to 9, 2025, for both locally and foreign-trained graduates.

According to the mobilisation timetable, pre-camp physical verification of credentials for foreign-trained graduates will hold between November 9 and 13, while ICT action is scheduled for November 12 to 15.

The timetable also indicates that the online printing of deployment and call-up letters will take place from November 16 to 18, 2025.
