In a move aimed at revitalising the education sector and enhancing governance, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has appointed renowned educationist, Professor Yusuf Gana Balami, as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.
The appointment, part of a broader cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, also saw the removal and replacement of two commissioners: Engr. Emet Kois (Environment) and Hon. Tukur Ibrahim Shani (Intergovernmental Affairs and Special Duties). They were replaced by Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan respectively.
Prof. Balami’s selection to head the Secondary Education Board underscores the Zulum administration’s commitment to improving educational outcomes in the state. An academic authority in Educational Psychology, Balami hails from Hawul Local Government Area and began his public service career at the Borno State Ministry of Education between 1984 and 1988. He later joined the University of Maiduguri where he rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2014.
A widely published scholar and active member of numerous professional bodies, Balami is respected as one of Borno’s foremost voices in educational reform.
Governor Zulum congratulated the new appointee and charged him to draw upon his extensive academic and administrative experience to reshape the quality and direction of secondary education in the state.
The new appointments, according to the statement, have been forwarded to the Borno State House of Assembly for confirmation in line with statutory procedures.
Observers note that the changes reflect Governor Zulum’s continued effort to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery, particularly in critical sectors such as education.
