Why Ogun stopped staggering classes

Ogun State Government has revealed that it has resumed normal classes for the second term 2020/2021 academic session, against the staggering classes that was put in place during the first term.

This is to ensure students cover syllabus for the session.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, who said this Monday in Abeokuta, while monitoring level of compliance with COVID-19 protocols in schools.

He was working to ensure that all guidelines and measures put in place by the government are followed to curtail the spread of the virus.

Arigbabu said ‘‘schools have resumed to their normal hours, which is from 8am to 2pm, staggering classes will not hold anymore, because syllabus have to be covered, as well as to safeguard lives of students who used to loiter around before their scheduled classes”.

The Commissioner who expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance, stressed the need to abide by the protocols, and encouraged school heads and teachers to always set aside few minutes to sensitise their students on how to prevent the spread of the virus, noting that children could also be agents of change that would influence their parents and others in their communities.

Speaking later in an interview with OGIS, the Principals, Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Joseph and her counterpart at the Baptist Girls College in Abeokuta, Mrs. Bada Modupe Oluwakemi, promised to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines, as laid down by the government.

Other schools visited during the monitoring exercise are African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta and Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, among others.
