UNILAG again wins Volkswagen foundation grant

University of Lagos (UNILAG) Centre for Digital Humanities has again won the Volkswagen Foundation grant.

This is the second one in a row that this was awarded to the Centre for Digital Humanities, University of Lagos (CEDHUL).

Its director, Prof. ‘Tunde Ope-Davies is to host the third Lagos Summer School in Digital Humanities (LSSDH) at the university.

This will be under the aegis of the Volkswagen Foundation’s Scheme “Knowledge for Tomorrow – Cooperative Research Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who expressed satisfaction over the grant, said it was a reflection of his administration’s commitment to research and innovation in the institution.

In a congratulatory message, he stated that the university would continue to provide the enabling environment for employees and students to interact and compete effectively with other counterparts globally, to continue to achieve its goals, and enhance the rising global ranking of the university.

The event being organised in conjunction with the Institute for Digital Humanities, University of Cologne, Germany, and will be held on the main campus of the university from May 9 to 15, 2021.

Over 60 participants from Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa are expected to attend the week-long workshop while several other scholars from Africa and beyond will participate virtually.

“International experts and facilitators in Digital Humanities are expected to teach the classes virtually from Europe, Africa, USA, and Canada. The Summer School has remained a veritable platform to retool academics, and produce scholars and researchers in the humanities who are now deploying digital tools for research and innovation,” the university authorities added.
