UNIJOS promotes 18 academics to professors

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has announced the promotion of eighteen academic staff members to the rank of Professor, effective October 1, 2022.

This decision, approved by the University’s Appointment and Promotions Committee (Senior Staff), marks a significant milestone for the institution.

The committee, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya, conducted a thorough evaluation to arrive at these promotions.

Abdullahi Abdullahi, Senior Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications), highlighted the breadth of disciplines represented among the newly promoted professors.

“This promotion exercise reflects our commitment to academic excellence and the professional development of our staff,” he stated.

The newly promoted professors include:

  • Dr. Sunday Joshua: Promoted to Professor of Computational/Numerical Mathematics.
  • Dr. Kums Ponfa Dombong: Elevated to Professor of African History.
  • Dr. Gushit John Stephen: Advanced to Professor of Analytical Chemistry.
  • Dr. Janet Plang Punyit: Now Professor of Gender Studies and Gerontology.
  • Dr. Okoli Chinwe Kate: Recognized as Professor of Refugee/IDPs Law and International Humanitarian Law.
  • Dr. Dadughun Sauaryi Isa: Promoted to Professor of Test & Measurement.
  • Dr. Abok Ibrahim Ishaya: Now Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology/General Paediatrics.
  • Dr. Iornum Hembe Shambe: Elevated to Professor of Gynaecological Oncology.
  • Dr. Rikko Samuel Laraba: Now Professor of Urban Planning.
  • Dr. Shaibu Samson James: Promoted to Professor of Veterinary Microbiology.
  • Dr. Pam Adamu Audu: Advanced to Professor of Intellectual Property Law/Sociology of Law.
  • Dr. Mangset Emmanuel: Now Professor of Radiation Biophysics/Medical Physics.
  • Dr. Bukata Bukar: Promoted to Professor of Pharmacology/Ethno Pharmacology.
  • Dr. Bodang Juliana: Elevated to Professor of Special Education (Learning Disabilities/Rehabilitation Sciences).
  • Dr. Attah Bala Galle: Advanced to Professor of Mathematics Education.
  • Dr. Sule Halima Mwuese: Recognized as Professor of Family Medicine and HIV Medicine.
  • Dr. Mai-Lafia Mary Dimis: Promoted to Professor of Public Personnel Management.
  • Dr. Ogbonna Abigail Ifeanyi: Now Professor of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology.

In addition to these promotions, the Appointments and Promotion Committee has also elevated twenty-four academic staff from Senior Lecturer to Reader (Associate Professor), effective October 1, 2022.
