The University of Ibadan has named its Postgraduate College Administrative Building after the late Professor Sanya Dojo Onabamiro, one of Nigeria’s foremost scientists and educators, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to scholarship and national development.

The naming ceremony, held at the university’s campus, was attended by eminent personalities including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, said the decision to honour the late professor reflects the university’s deep appreciation for trailblazers who laid the foundation for academic excellence in Nigeria.

“This is not just about naming a building; it is about preserving the legacy of a man whose life epitomised dedication to education, scientific research, and public service,” Adebowale stated.

Professor Onabamiro, who was renowned for his groundbreaking work in parasitology, also served in various capacities in public service, including as a minister and university administrator.

In his remarks, former President Obasanjo described Onabamiro as a rare breed of scholar whose intellectual rigor and patriotism shaped Nigeria’s academic and political landscape. “He was diligent, visionary, and his impact continues to resonate beyond his lifetime,” Obasanjo noted.
