Tinubu appoints officers for Federal University Iyin Ekiti; new Pro-Chancellor for Federal University Otukpo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and Principal Officers for the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

New Leadership at Federal University Iyin Ekiti

Senator Binta Masi Garba has been named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council. A seasoned politician and administrator, Senator Garba previously served as Senator for Adamawa North (2015–2019) and was a three-term member of the House of Representatives (1999–2011).

Other Governing Council members include:

  • Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya
  • Mr. Efe Emefienin Emmanuel
  • Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi
  • Alhaji Dahiru Abdullahi Ruma

President Tinubu also appointed the university’s Principal Officers, who are:

  • Vice-Chancellor: Prof. James Olugbenga Aribisala
  • Registrar: Mr. Oluwole Olalere Dada
  • Bursar: Mrs. Adeniyi Rachael Ajayi
  • Librarian: Prof. Isaac Oluwadare Busayo

The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences is set to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.

New Pro-Chancellor for Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo

In a separate announcement, President Tinubu appointed Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State.

Prof. Audu, a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Jos, replaces Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami. He is a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he led transformative academic and infrastructural developments.

Commitment to Higher Education Development

President Tinubu commended Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele for his role in advocating for the establishment of Federal University Iyin Ekiti. He urged the new appointees to bring their extensive leadership experience to bear in ensuring academic excellence, innovative research, and sustainable development at the institutions.

The appointments reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening higher education and research in Nigeria.
