The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old suspect, in connection with the brutal murder of Idowu Christianah, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State.

Christianah was allegedly abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos in August. The suspect, Ayomide Adeleye, is a 200-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State.

The case gained public attention when social media users began trending the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah on X, formerly Twitter, demanding swift prosecution of the suspect. Many netizens also suggested that Ayomide may have been involved in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020 under similarly suspicious circumstances.

The Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Ayomide’s arrest in a statement on X, accompanied by a picture of the suspect in handcuffs. He revealed that the suspect was handed over to the police by the Nigerian Army on Thursday afternoon.

“23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to @LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
