The Oyo State Government has paid a total of ₦5 billion to Osun State as part of its commitment to the sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
This was disclosed by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who noted that the full settlement amount is ₦8 billion.
He explained that the Makinde administration has consistently released ₦1 billion annually and is on track to complete payment before the end of its tenure in 2027.
The landmark agreement, reached on 20 November 2020, ended years of joint ownership disputes between Oyo and Osun states. Under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, Oyo became the sole proprietor of LAUTECH.
“Since the resolution, the university has witnessed significant growth, reaffirming its place as Nigeria’s best state university,” Oyelade stated.
He also highlighted the institution’s physical and academic expansion, including the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Iseyin campus.
In further support of the campus, the governor recently approved ₦650 million as a take-off grant for its Teaching and Research Farm.
Additionally, the state government has commenced the development of infrastructure—including health centres and road networks—across three campuses: LAUTECH Iseyin, Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan, and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education in Oyo.
