Oyo begins teachers’ recruitment exercise

The Oyo State Government has begun the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff into its junior and senior secondary schools.

This exercise is conducted by the State Post-Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

In a statement sent to EduCeleb.com late Monday evening, Oyo TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olabisi Oderinde, said the application, which attracts the payment of N1000, is open till 24th February, 2020.

School subjects

Applications are expected to be received from Tuesday, 10th February from suitably qualified candidates in various subject areas.

Particularly, TESCOM sought applications from persons trained to teach English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Accounting and Yoruba Language.

Other disciplines are French, Geography, Basic Technology, History, Government, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Specialists in Computer Science, Physical and Health Education, Guidance and Counselling as well as Christian or Islamic Religious Studies.

Requirements for teaching staff

Applicants must possess any or a combination of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), a Bachelor of Arts (Education) B.A (Ed)/ Bachelor of Arts (B.A); a Bachelor of Science (Education) – B.Sc. (Ed)/Bachelor of Science (B.Sc); or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from recognized Institutions.

In addition, they should also possess a primary school Leaving Certificate/Testimonial, a Senior Secondary School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) credits including English and Mathematics and an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate.

Other documents include a Birth Certificate obtained from the National Population Commission or Affidavit of Declaration of Age, a Local Government Identification.

In the case of name past name change, they are required to present evidence of Change of Name.

Non-teaching jobs

Among non-teaching jobs listed include, Day/Night Watchmen, Clerical Officers, Assistant Executive Officer (General Duties), Assistant Executive Officers (Accounts), and Secretaries/ Typists (with basic computer knowledge).

A Day/Night watchman applicant must be mentally and physically fit with Primary Six School Leaving Certificate.

Intending Clerical Officers must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate/General Certificate of Education with five credits (O/L) at one sitting or six credits at two sittings in WAEC, NECO and other relevant examination bodies.

Assistant Executive Officers (General Duties) must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate/General Certificate of Education (O/L) four (4) credits at one sitting or five (5) credits at two sittings plus National Diploma (OND) in Public Administration and Secretarial Assistant.

For Assistant Executive Officers (Accounts), the applicant must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate/General Certificate of Education (O/L) four (4) credits at one sitting or five (5) credits at two sittings plus National Diploma (OND) in Financial Accounting. Basic knowledge of computer skills is an added advantage.

In all non-teaching positions except for nightwatch men, basic knowledge of computer skills is an added advantage.

Also, the government requires them to also present additional documents including their Birth Certificate or sworn Affidavit of Declaration of Age, a Local Government Identification and an evidence of change of name, if applicable.

Payment for application

All applicants are requested to purchase application forms at Room AG 39, Oyo State Post Primary Schools’ Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Secretariat, Ibadan or the nearest TESCOM Zonal Offices in Saki, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Eruwa.

That spans between Tuesday, 11th February, 2020 and Monday, 24th February, 2020 from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily at One Thousand Naira (N1,000.00) only payable into any of Union Bank, First City Monument Bank, WEMA Bank Plc and Polaris Bank.

The account name is Oyo State Government and the revenue code is 4040082.

Obtained teller must be verified at the Office of the Accountant General, Secretariat, Ibadan.

All application forms are to be submitted on or before Monday, 24th February, 2020.

Thereafter, qualified shortlisted candidates would be invited for CBT test and interview at a date that will be announced later.
