NUC accredits 9 programmes at Al-Hikmah University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation to nine academic programmes of the Al-Hikman University, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Noah Yusuf made this known at a press briefing recently.

Yusuf said the university had in 2020, secured accreditation for 22 of its academic programmes and 11 others in 2021.

The courses presented for NUC accreditation in November/December 2022 are English, Agriculture, Human Anatomy, Computer Science, Information Systems, Education Physics, Law, Biology and Geology.

He said, with latest outing in NUC accreditation, Al-Hkmah University has virtually all its academic programmes with ‘Full Accreditation’ status.

“The outstanding ones are the new programmes, which are yet to mature for accreditation.

“For most of our undergraduate programmes, the full accreditation status is valid for another five years (2025 and 2027).

“Al-Hikmah University currently assumes the status of a university where parents and wards can have full assurance and guarantee that any academic programmes of choice have been fully accredited.

“The current accreditation status has provided the university with an additional selling point as a foremost citadel for quality education with spiritual excellence,” he said.

Yusuf thanked all stakeholders of the university for giving consistent support to the current management.

“This has contributed, in no small measure, to the enormous success recorded in all spheres, including accreditation exercise.”

The vice-chancellor said the university “is set to hold her first ‘Endowment Fund’ for N15 billion, which will coincide with the Founder’s birthday on Thursday, June 8.

He appealed to the Kwara State and Federal Government for more support through agencies like TETFUND and the provision of direct grants.

Yusuf said government at all levels should assist and compensate private universities in the country.

He said this is because they are assisting the government in providing education for the citizens.

He also appealed to state governments to sponsor their students at Al-Hikmah University for relevant academic programmes.
