Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce two new full-time undergraduate programmes, set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.
The newly approved programmes are:
- B.A. (Ed) Music Education
- B.Ed. Social Studies and Civic Education
The development was confirmed in a letter dated July 17, 2025, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Mr. Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary. The approval followed a successful resource verification exercise carried out by the Commission’s panel of experts who assessed the University’s readiness in terms of academic personnel, infrastructure, and teaching materials.
According to the NUC, the approval is limited to full-time mode and comes with a call for the University to sustain the programmes by maintaining high academic standards through adequate human and material resources.
The introduction of these two new programmes marks a significant step in LASU’s ongoing efforts to diversify its academic offerings and bolster teacher education, particularly in the fields of arts and civic learning.
The University has reaffirmed its commitment to providing access to quality education in alignment with national goals and international best practices.
