The Lagos State University (LASU) Alumni Association on Tuesday inaugurated its newly elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years.
Chairman, LASU Alumni Association Board of Trustee (BOT), Mr Olateju Shonaike said that the inauguration was a traditional rite and any executive that waved such had committed an aberration.
“This inauguration is line with the dictates of the university’s founding fathers and we are here to do it the way the university wants it to be done,” he said.
Sonaike noted that the Alumni association was not an all comers affairs but for those who have the heart to donate out of their resources for the development of their alma mata.
He charged the newly elected executive officers to resolve to give out of their resources in addition to the fund that would be generated from other donors to build the university.
“I urge the new executives to prevent the issue of fund ,so as not to de- market the university and pray that before the end of your tenure ,the LASU International Conference Centre would have been commissioned,” he said.
In his address, titled “I Believe We Are Ready”, the LASU Vice-Chancellor lauded the executives of the Alumni for their determination to add value to the university.
Fagbohun identified the three groups that made up the Alumni as the Give group, the Take group and the Social symbol group .
He said the desire of the Alumni must be to change the the university to an enviable status while the university management was ready to key into its agenda .
“You must set your plan of action, draw a time line, forget your differences and focus on your assignment.
“Have a clear vision that the work must not fail, respect yourself and offices and you will not fail,” he said.
According to the VC, the university was already mounting various post -graduate programmes and would extend it online, as a platform to attract investors and market the university.
In his acceptance speech, the re-elected President of the Alumni, Rtd. Maj.Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe, said the association would continue to give the university and its conglomerate full support .
Esekhaigbe expressed optimism that the Alumni executives would deliver on its mandate, following the background and quality of the people elected.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. The best is expected of us and mobilisation is very key to harness all our resources.
“I call on all LASU Alumni to collaborate with us to re- strategies , towards meeting our demands.
“From my analysis, if 349 Alumni following their monthly income could contribute 250,000 yearly
