The Lagos State Government has mandated all unapproved and unregistered private schools operating within the state to register with the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) to meet required standards and provide quality education.
This directive was issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, as part of ongoing efforts to regulate and improve the state’s educational landscape.
Mandatory Registration and Sanctions
Speaking at the OEQA office in Alausa, Ikeja, the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, emphasized that registration is compulsory for all private schools operating below the tertiary level. Abdul warned that failure to comply with this directive could lead to sanctions against defaulters.
He explained that the rapid expansion of private schools in Lagos State requires effective monitoring, which hinges on proper registration and documentation.
Registration Details and Benefits
Unregistered private schools are expected to submit their applications for registration starting January 13, 2025, at the OEQA office in Ikeja.
Abdul outlined the benefits of registration, including:
- State recognition and accreditation.
- Access to technical and financial support from the government.
- Regular updates on policies and initiatives from state and federal education ministries.
He assured that the state government is fully committed to ensuring every learner in Lagos State receives quality education.
