The Kogi State College of Education (Technical), in Kabba has been relocated to Mopa.

Mr. Yunusa Onalo, Head of the Information and Protocol Unit at the college disclosed this in a press statement shared with EduCeleb.com on Saturday.

This move marks a significant milestone in the institution’s journey, which has spanned 13 remarkable years in Kabba.

Over this period, the College has produced ten sets of graduates who have made invaluable contributions to both the economic development of Kogi State and Nigeria, thanks to their technical and vocational expertise.

Mr. Onalo emphasized the critical role of technical education in driving economic growth and development. He pointed out that technical education provides students with practical skills essential for the workforce, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving. These attributes are fundamental in transforming societies and driving progress.

He commended the Kogi State government for its zeal in expanding technical education to rural areas, thus broadening educational opportunities and supporting regional development.

Despite the strategic benefits of relocating to Mopa, Mr Onalo acknowledged that the College faces several challenges.

The current infrastructure in Mopa is inadequate, lacking sufficient classrooms and staff offices. This deficiency hampers the institution’s ability to deliver quality education.

Additionally, the economic situation has made it difficult for staff to move their families to Mopa, affecting their morale and productivity.

In his words, “Currently, the College lacks adequate classrooms to accommodate its students, and staff offices are nonexistent. Moreover, the staff are struggling to relocate their families to Mopa due to the current economic situation, which is affecting their morale and productivity.”

The College’s remote location also necessitates the implementation of robust security measures to ensure the safety of both students and staff.

The transition to Mopa has been supported by notable community leaders, including the Elulu of Mopa, HRM Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, and the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Destiny Ademola. Their interventions have been invaluable in facilitating the College’s relocation and ensuring that lectures have commenced smoothly. Mr. Onalo expressed gratitude for their efforts and support.

To sustain and enhance the College’s impact, Mr. Onalo called on the government to prioritize several key areas. These include the provision of adequate classrooms and offices to accommodate the student body and staff, providing financial and logistical support to help staff relocate, implementing security protocols to ensure a safe learning environment, and supplying the necessary tools and resources for effective teaching and learning.
