Governor’s aide among 32 Nigerians awarded Chevening scholarship

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji’s Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, Mr. Femi Owolabi, is among the 32 Nigerians selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship this year.

Owolabi was chosen from over 10,750 Nigerian applicants for the scholarship, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

He will pursue a Master’s degree in Governance, Development, and Public Policy at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, in the United Kingdom.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji praised Owolabi for this remarkable achievement, calling it a well-deserved recognition of his “diligence, brilliance, and commitment to professional and academic excellence.”

The Governor commended Owolabi for his accomplishment and expressed confidence in his future contributions to both Ekiti State and Nigeria.

The Chevening Scholarship is a globally competitive program that provides fully funded opportunities for outstanding individuals from all backgrounds to pursue a one-year Master’s degree in the UK. Recipients are chosen based on their leadership potential and their ability to create positive change in society.

This year, only 32 Nigerians were awarded the Chevening Scholarship, three of whom are from Ekiti State. Alongside Owolabi, Omotoke Titilope Olugbode and Kayode Banji Adeniyi were also selected.

Olugbode will be attending the University of Hull to study for a Master’s degree in Special Educational Needs, Disability, and Inclusion, while Adeniyi will pursue a Master’s degree in Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Governor Oyebanji extended his congratulations to Olugbode and Adeniyi, encouraging them to use this opportunity to advance their careers and contribute to societal development.

He expressed pride in Ekiti State’s representation on the global stage, stating, “Seeing our citizens compete favorably with their contemporaries in the global arena is a source of personal joy to me and pride to my administration.”

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to creating opportunities for the youth of Ekiti State as part of its shared prosperity agenda.
