The management of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the rustication of 20 students found guilty of various forms of examination malpractice.

The decision takes effect from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.

This was contained in a statement issued by the institution’s Director of Information and Protocol, Nasiru Abdul, who said the action followed the recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

According to the statement, the affected students appeared before the committee to answer allegations of examination misconduct, after which the committee submitted its report to the university senate for ratification.

The senate approved the recommendation during its 138th regular meeting held on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at the Twin Theatre of the university’s main campus.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the decision was taken in accordance with Section 13.3, Subsection 13.3(c) of the university’s policy on examination irregularities and academic misconduct.

Othman commended members of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for their commitment to the university’s examination regulations and for ensuring due process, fairness, firmness and justice in handling the cases.

He noted that the senate’s decision was intended to send a clear message to students to comply strictly with the institution’s rules and regulations governing examinations.

According to him, the measure is also meant to serve as a deterrent to those who may attempt to engage in malpractice or circumvent the university’s academic regulations.

“All the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before the committee to defend themselves,” the statement added.
