The management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Owerri has warned male and female students of the institution against cohabitation.
Michael Arimanwa, the rector of the polytechnic, spoke while addressing theover 5,000 newly admitted students during the institution’s 43rd matriculation ceremony.
Arimanwa said cohabitation portends danger to the career and academic success of students who practice it as such could result in unwanted pregnancy or HIV infection.
The rector enjoined the students to remain focused on their study which is their primary reason for enrolling in the institution.
“Desist from cohabitation. Your parents and guardians did not send you to school to become illegal wives and husbands and end up with unwanted pregnancies or babies instead of your graduation certificates,” he said.
“You can become infected with dangerous diseases such as HIV and your entire life will be destroyed.”
Arimanwa also disclosed that the institution’s management is working in synergy with landlords of privately owned hostels around the campus to ensure male and female students were properly delineated to reduce the rate of cohabitation among students.
The rector charged the newly admitted students to take their academics seriously in order to be successful in life and make a meaningful impact in the society.
