Eleven inmates from the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre have recently graduated with first degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). Among the graduates, seven earned Upper Second-Class honors, two achieved Lower Second-Class honors, and two received Postgraduate Diplomas. The graduates completed their studies over a period of four to five years through NOUN’s study center at the custodial facility.

The degrees and diplomas were presented during a mini-convocation ceremony held at the Kaduna Custodial Centre. Dr. Baba, representing the NOUN Vice Chancellor, and Nuru Mohammed Isah, the Controller of Corrections for Kaduna State Command, jointly awarded the certificates to the graduates.

Dr. Baba praised the graduates’ determination, stating, “I am overwhelmed with joy that God granted these students the grace to successfully complete their studies to become graduates of NOUN.” Controller Isah echoed this sentiment, noting the resilience of the graduates. “Thank God these graduates overcame the psychological challenges of rigorous study while being held at the custodial centre. We have prepared them to face and overcome future challenges when they leave.”

Deputy Controller of Corrections, Abdullahi Dangani, extended gratitude to NOUN for its role in the reformation and education of inmates, recognizing the program’s impact on their lives and future prospects.
