Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has expelled a student, Oladipupo Siwajuola, over multiple violations of institutional rules, including involvement in fetish practices, drug peddling, impersonation, and gross dishonesty.

The university confirmed the expulsion in a statement on Wednesday, signed by its Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman. The decision followed investigations into Siwajuola’s disappearance in April, which had earlier sparked public outcry after his mother alleged institutional negligence on social media.

According to the university, Siwajuola deliberately left campus on April 28, 2025, disguising himself in a hoodie and sneaking out through the university’s teaching hospital gate without authorisation.

“His disappearance was neither accidental nor the result of negligence by the university. Rather, it was a deliberate act laced with misconducts that violated the Babcock University Student Handbook,” the statement read.

Upon his return to campus on May 15, Siwajuola reportedly confessed to multiple infractions during a formal debrief and disciplinary hearing. He admitted to purchasing a “black soap” from a traditional herbalist for ₦100,000 for ritual purposes, contrary to his mother’s public claim that it was for treating a skin condition.

The university said Siwajuola also confessed to involvement in a “Yahoo Yahoo Plus” scheme — a term for cyber fraud mixed with fetish rituals — alongside drug peddling, borrowing ₦500,000 from an online loan app to gamble, and impersonating another student to open a bank account.

The school further disclosed that Siwajuola had sold his personal phone under false pretenses and misled the buyer by falsely claiming parental consent.

Contrary to his mother’s earlier statement that he was found by secondary school friends, the university clarified that it was the parent of a friend — alarmed by the growing social media storm — who informed his family about his whereabouts in Lagos.

Siwajuola was found guilty of unauthorised exit from campus, possession and use of fetish items, drug-related offences, impersonation, dishonesty, and illegal sale of property.

“In line with our disciplinary procedures and global best practices, the university had no choice but to dismiss him with immediate effect,” the statement said.

While expressing disappointment over what it described as “sensational and baseless accusations” made by Siwajuola’s mother on social media, the university said it would not pursue legal action in light of the student’s father’s responsible conduct.

“Our foremost responsibility remains the safety and moral integrity of all students entrusted to our care,” the statement concluded.
