Not less than 300 indigent students at Bayero University Kano (BUK) would benefit from a scholarship scheme by the university authorities.
BUK Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Yahuza Bello, on Wednesday said the university would this week release the sum of N15million for the selected students in the institution for the 2019/2020 academic session.
He made this known in an address at a special ceremony organized in honour of some of the students who had represented the university and emerged excellent in academic and sporting activities both within and outside the country.
The VC said the scholarship fund initiative was conceived to help the less-privileged students who though are academically sound but are constrained financially to meet up with their financial obligations especially in the payment of tuition fees.
“Times like this when students are registering, some of the returning students may be in need of funds, and if someone is going to get some financial rewards that may help him in paying his tuition fees; it was based on this that the university this week is releasing the indigent students’ scholarship funds.
“We are awarding scholarship funds of fifteen million naira (N15m) to 300 students. Some of these students would not have been able to continue with their studies without the support. The scholarship is not only to support their studies but to help them come out with flying colours,” the VC said.
Over the years, interventions like this have helpef students to overcome their financial challenges and graduate with excellent results.
EduCeleb.com earlier reported that the BUK authorities had last week approved the promotion of 36 new professors, 40 associate professors.
