President nominates Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education

President Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad, an accomplished academic and associate professor, to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the new Minister of State for Education.

She is one of the seven ministerial nominees following a recent cabinet reshuffle that saw the erstwhile education minister, Tahir Mamman sacked and the Minister of State for Education, Dr Tanko Sanunu redeployed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Dr Morufu Alausa who was Minister of State for Health is now deployed as the Minister of Education.

Dr Ahmad, who brings a wealth of experience in education policy and sustainable development, is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s education sector if confirmed.

She currently serves as an Associate Professor at Bayero University, Kano, where she has built a reputation for her work in policy and environmental studies.

Known for her dedication to educational reform, she has contributed to numerous research projects and initiatives focused on improving academic standards and integrating sustainable practices within educational frameworks.

Her nomination has sparked interest and optimism within the academic and educational communities.

“Dr. Ahmad’s experience in both policy development and practical education reforms makes her an excellent fit for this role,” remarked a senior official from Bayero University, adding, “Her work has always centered on improving student outcomes and fostering an environment of sustainable growth.”

If confirmed, Dr. Ahmad will join the Ministry of Education at a time when significant reforms are underway, aimed at addressing challenges like out-of-school children, teacher training, and curriculum development.

The Senate is expected to conduct Dr. Ahmad’s confirmation hearing in the coming days, where she will outline her vision for the future of Nigerian education and her plans for supporting the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives.
