FCET Akoka: Council appoints Isaac Miller acting provost

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Technical (FCET), Akoka, Lagos, has appointed Dr. Isaac Oluwatin Miller as the Acting Provost of the College.

This decision was announced in a notice signed by Mr. Rasheed Dada, the Registrar of the College, on behalf of the Governing Council.

The notice directed Dr. Wahab Azeez, the former Provost, to step aside.

Dr. Azeez had been embroiled in a conflict with a section of the staff unions of the College since May 27, 2024.

The crisis escalated on Monday when aggrieved staff and students prevented Azeez from entering his office.

This protest turned violent, resulting in the vandalization of several official vehicles.

Official Notice

The official notice, titled “Appointment Of Dr. Isaac Oluwatoyin Miller As The Acting Provost,” stated:

“This is to inform the College Community that at the inaugural meeting of the 8th Governing Council of the College on Tuesday, 30th July, 2024, the Council directed that Dr. Wahab Ademola Azeez should step aside from office as the Provost of the College with effect from 31 July, 2024. Sequel to the above, the Council at the same meeting unanimously resolved to appoint Dr. Isaac Oluwatoyin Miller as the Acting Provost with immediate effect.”

Aftermath of the Protest

A source within the College reported that the 32 individuals arrested by the police during the violent protest have been released.

In the wake of the unrest, academic activities have been suspended indefinitely, and students have been instructed to vacate the premises and hostels of the institution.
