Wike sacks Rivers State University Vice-Chancellor, Deputy

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has sacked the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Blessing Didia.

He also sacked is the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Magnus Oruwari.

Both professors were sacked for reasons yet to be identified even as a statement EduCeleb.com obtained from the State Ministry of Education noted that the ongoing recruitment exercise in the University was ordered to be stopped.

The duo were relieved of their appointments with “immediate effect”.

“Rivers State Governor and Visitor of the Rivers State University, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has relieved the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia of his appointment with immediate effect,” Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Dagogo Hart wrote in the statement.

The governor had ordered their immediate replacement however with Opuenebo Owei.

Owei, until the appointment was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) and would now be regarded as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University.

“The Governor has also suspended the ongoing employment exercise at the university.

“Furthermore, a committee has been set up to investigate the employment exercise and report to the Rivers State Governor in two weeks.”
