WAEC releases private candidates’ WASSCE results

The results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2019-Second Series was on Friday released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The examination took place in the five member countries of the Council from 29th August, 2019 to 2nd October, 2019.

According to the Head of National Office of WAEC, Olu Adenipekun, the Coordination of Examiners and Marking of Candidates’ Scripts took place at 10 Venues in Nigeria. In addition, two venues were used for the electronic marking of three (3) essay papers which included Economics 2, Commerce 2 and Civic Education 2.

A total of Ninety Seven Thousand and Eighty (97,080) candidates registered for the examination in Nigeria, out of which Ninety Four Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Four (94,884) candidates sat the examination.

Among them were a total of One Hundred and Ten (110) candidates with varying degrees of special needs registered for the examination.

Out of this number, Thirty Eight (38) were visually challenged; Fifteen (15) had impaired hearing; Twelve (12) had low vision; Three (3) were spastic cum mentally challenged, and Eight (8) were physically challenged.

Mr Adenipekun revealed that all these candidates with special needs were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination and their results had been equally released.

Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination in Nigeria, Forty Seven Two Hundred and Thirty Seven (47,237) were male while Forty Seven Thousand Six Hundred and Forty Seven (47,647) were female, representing 49.78% and 50.22% respectively.

Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, Ninety One Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty Five (91,225) candidates, representing 96.14% have their results fully processed and released while Three Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Nine (3,659) candidates representing 3.86% have a few of their subjects still being processed. Such results will however be speedily processed and released within the next one week. 

From the total number of candidates who sat for the exams, Forty Nine Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy Nine (49,679) candidates representing 52.36% obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (with or without English Language and/or Mathematics; out of which Twenty Four Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Four (24,354) were male and Twenty Five Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty Five (25,325) were female representing 49.02% and 50.98% respectively.

Also, Thirty Three Thousand Three Hundred and Four (33,304) candidates representing 35.10% obtained credits and above in minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics; Out of which Sixteen Thousand Four Hundred and Thirty One (16, 431) were male and Sixteen Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Three (16, 873) were female representing 49.34% and 50.66% respectively.

Nine Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Seven (9,457) candidates were reported to have been involved in one form of examination malpractice or the other. This number represents 9.74% of the total candidature for the examination. Their cases will be presented to the appropriate Committee of Council and the decision of the Council on their cases will be communicated to the affected candidates within the shortest possible time.

Candidates who sat the examination are now free to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org.  The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number needed by candidates to check their results online are contained on the candidate’s Smart Identity Card used during the conduct of the examination.
