WAEC releases 2019 First Series WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has on Tuesday released results of the First Diet for the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This coming barely thirty days after the conclusion of the examination on 4th February.

A sum of Twelve Thousand, Two Hundred and Two candidates registered for the Examination.

Announcing the results at the WAEC National Headquarters in Lagos, the Head of National Office, Olu Adenipekun said that 26.08% of candidates who eventually wrote it obtained credits in five subjects including English Language and General Mathematics.

That represents a total of Three Thousand, One Hundred and Two candidates of the Eleven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Two total candidates who sat for the exams.

The percentage of candidates who scored that represents an 8.58% increase from the 17.5% recorded during the 2018 WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2018 – First Series.

The results of Three Hundred and Seventy-Six candidates, representing 3.16% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractices and possible mistakes on the part of students.

Mr Adenipekun explained that these cases were being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council in due course for consideration.

“The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates,” he said.

“Candidates who sat the examination are now free to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org. The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number needed by the candidates to check their results online are contained on the Candidate’s Smart Identification Card used during the conduct of the examination.”

He added that “Analysis of the statistics of candidates’ performance in the examination shows that eight thousand seven hundred and eighty-two candidates representing 75.15% obtained credit and above in two subjects; seven thousand three hundred and thirty-two candidates representing 62.74% obtained credit and above in three subjects.”

“Five thousand eight hundred and fifty candidates representing 50.06% obtained credit and above in four subjects; four thousand three hundred and fourteen candidates representing 36.28% obtained credit and above in five subjects.”

The WAEC Nigeria chief commended the members of staff of the Council, “whose sacrifices, dedication and commitment to duty contributed immensely to the successes recorded during the conduct, marking, processing and the release of the results of the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019 – First Series in Nigeria.”

EduCeleb.com recalls that the first edition of the new diet of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – First Series was successfully conducted in January/February, 2018.

WAEC said the introduction of the new diet from then was increase opportunities for persons who may have missed out in the two other existing examination diets.
