The management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have suspended physical classes for the Chinese course in the institution amid fears of a probable spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Charles Esimone, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press conference held at the school’s senate chambers on Monday.

He said the University had also asked its Chinese lecturers, who travelled for Chinese New Year vacation, not to return to the University while those who were around had been barred from being on the campus.

Esimone, a professor, said the Chinese course under Confucius Institute of the University would now be run online.

During the convocation ceremonies billed for Thursday, 12th March, the university would be conferring 6,750 first degree students with bachelor’s degrees.

Among them are 47 who earned a first class degree.

Esimone added that a total of 339 doctorate degree holders will also be honoured.

The VC added that 2821 will equally receive their postgraduate degrees at the convocation.

EduCeleb.com also reported that the institution would confer honorary doctorate degrees on the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma and Chairman of Dozzy groups, Daniel Chukwudozie at the convocation ceremony.
