UNIABUJA promotes four new professors

The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has approved the promotion of of four of its academic staff members to the rank of professors.

According to a post on University’s Facebook page on Sunday, the staff promotion was recently approved by the UNIABUJA governing council.

It reads, “Please help us congratulate and celebrate our four newest professors whose promotion was recently approved by the 8th Governing Council of the University of Abuja. They are Professor Bello Ayuba (Business Administration), Professor Abdulazeez Balogun Shittu (Islamic Studies) Professor Yelwa Mohammed (Economics) and Professor Rafatu AbdulHamid.”

Professor Bello Ayuba

Ayuba holds an honours degree in Business Management from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State; Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Kaduna State, and PhD in Management from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

He began his teaching career in 2001 as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, and University of Abuja, rising through the ranks to become a professor in 2019.

He has several national and international publications in academic journals, books, and has presented more than 20 conference papers within and outside Nigeria.

Ayuba is a Fellow of the Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management (FBDFM); Fellow of the Institute of Management, as well as member of several other professional bodies.

He is currently the Director, Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education (CDL&CE), University of Abuja, which is providing opportunity for university education to a wide spectrum of working and business people within and outside the University immediate environment.

Professor Yelwa Mohammed

Yelwa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1997; a Master’s degree and Ph.D from Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto in 2007 and 2012 respectively.

Since joining the service of the University of Abuja in 2008 from Federal University of Technology, Minna, he has taught many students and published several research papers in journals, becoming a professor of Financial Economics in 2019.

Yelwa is a member of several professional associations including the Nigerian Economics Society (NES) and Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (ANIM).

Professor Abdulazeez Balogun Shittu

Shittu bagged a first class honours degree in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in 1999, and in 2002 a Master’s degree in the same discipline. He proceeded to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage in 2011.

A professor of Islamic Thoughts and Comparative Religion, Shittu joined the service of the University of Abuja in 2005 as an Assistant Lecturer, rising to the rank of professor in 2019.

He has attended many national and International learned Conferences, seminars & workshops, where he made presentations, in addition to his publications in journals, chapters in book and book reviews. He is also a member of many journal editorial boards including the Global Scholars Journal of Educational Research (GSJER) and Atlantic Journal of Educational and Humanities Studies (AJEHS).

Shittu is currently the Head of Department of Islamic Studies, University of Abuja.

Professor Rafatu AbdulHamid

Rafatu AbdulHamid earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Studies at the University of Jos in 1995, and in 2002, she had her Master’s degree in the same discipline. She obtained her PhD from the same University in 2012.

Rafatu started her academic career at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi as an Assistant Lecturer in 2005 and rose to the rank of Lecturer II, before joining the University of Abuja as Lecturer I in 2011.

A professor of Islamic Studies with specilisation in Islamic Thought and Gender Studies, Rafatu has presented scholarly papers at many national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. She is a member of many Learned Societies including American Council of Learned Societies and Society for Research and Academic Excellence among many others.

Rafatu has held many positions in the University, and she is currently the Programme Co-coordinator, Centre for Gender Security Studies and Youth Advancement.
