UI takes tougher measures to curtail insecurity on campus

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has rolled out tougher measures to curtail the scourge of insecurity on the campus.

It said that it would now ensure strict implementation of disallowing illegal residents in the hostels.

EduCeleb.com recalls that there have been at least, two robbery attacks on students in their halls of residence in the past one month.

The Vice-Chancellor of UI, Idowu Olayinka recently said that the police was still on the trail of the robbers while assuring of additional security measures.

Among these is the institution of a partial curfew affecting both students and staff members between 12am and 5am daily.

Also, male students were not to be allowed in female halls of residence from 8:30pm.

The Hall Warden of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, Dr Olufemi Adebiyi, broadcast these among other steps in a WhatsApp message circulated around 4pm on Thursday 15th August, 2019.

“Due to recent events of theft and insecurity, all illegal occupants are expected to vacate the hall immediately,” the rules read in part.

“Porters, excos and security teams will be conducting room to room identification and any student found not to be an official occupant will be processed for SDC”

“Legal occupant harbouring such illegal occupant will face automatic ejection with plea and also be processed for SDC.”

It also stipulated undisclosed “heavy” fines for rule violators.

“Any room where illegal occupants are found, ALL the legal occupants of such room will be heavily fined without plea”

Occupants were also advised to “send out all illegal occupants out of your room or report illegal occupant and his collaborator to the warden within 24hours.”

The management added that pruning illegal residents can be implemented at anytime without notification.”
