Bandits have killed two more students of Greenfield University in Kaduna, officials said on Monday.

The remains of the two slain students have been evacuated to a morgue in Kaduna, according to the State Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan in a statement.

The development came two days after the bandits killed three out of the 20 students kidnapped from the school last week.

The latest two take the number of students killed to five as negotiation for the release of the remaining 15 continues.

Parents of the students said ransom was being negotiated with the bandits when the three students were shot last week.

Govt visits slain students’ families

The Kaduna State government has sent a delegation to sympathise with the families of the three students of Greenfield University who were killed by bandits after two days of their abduction.

The delegation led by the Kaduna government Commissioner of Education, Shehu Mohammed, visited the families of the students in Jaji, Barnawa, and Sabon Tasha areas in Igabi and Chikun Local Government Areas.

The Commissioner while consoling the parents of the deceased students over the unfortunate incident, also announced that the government has commenced the process of beefing up security around schools in the state and also relocating students from schools located in vulnerable areas to safer places.

He also reiterates the state government’s position not to negotiate with bandits even in the face of the present situation, noting that what is required is the collaboration of all stakeholders to fight the common enemies.

“There are due processes for one to follow to seek redress. For somebody to take arms against his fellow citizen is unconstitutional and unacceptable and the governor will not tolerate that,” Mohammed said.

The Proprietor of Greenfield University, Mr Simon Nwakaja who is also an uncle to one of the slain students lamented that he didn’t do any wrong by citing the University along the Kaduna- Abuja.

The affected students were in 300 Level, departments of Accounting, International relations, and Cybersecurity department before their abduction and subsequent death in the hands of the kidnappers.
