Thousands of teaching applicants jostling to replace the about 25,000 teachers who failed a test on Wednesday, sat for the aptitude test.

This test is coming barely a week after a Nigerian court invalidated the sack of Kaduna teachers. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Kaduna had on Thursday, 14th December, 2017 ordered Kaduna State government to stop the planned sack of 21,000 primary school teachers who failed competency test.

It follows Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai’s decision to dismiss some of the current primary school teachers who allegedly failed the primary four competency test from the state’s teaching employment.

EduCeleb.com recalls that the governor gave the number of applicants for the classroom job as 46,806. He had made the disclosure during a consultative meeting with state lawmakers in the National Assembly in Abuja back in November.

The applicants were expected to write the test in 130 centres spread across the 23 local government areas of the state.

There was some delay before the test materials were distributed to the centres, as the materials arrived about 12 noon as against the planned 8:00a.m.

An applicant who wrote the test at a centre in Zango Kattaf Local Government Area of the state, told Daily Sun that many centres in his area started earlier and had since finished writing the test.

The test was conducted by the Kaduna State government through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). Kaduna SUBEB had initially announced the recruitment exercise in October.

Daily Sun reports that applicants were seen being despatched to their classes and getting ready to start. Things were more orderly at some of the centres visited.
