Executive Secretary, Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LSTVEB), Ms Ronke Azeez has revealed about the dilemma of using e-learning while ensuring social distancing.

She was speaking at a discourse to mark the World Youth Skills Day on Wednesday.

According to her, technical colleges that her agency caters for have a division of 60 percent practical and 40 percent theory classes.

She disclosed that LSTVEB had been preparing for the challenges associated with maintaining social distancing in the classrooms while also teaching students practicals.

One option was to teach students in shifts with some taken practicals at times other than others.

In her words, “We would reduce the size of students going in. We would have some students going in on a Monday, we would have some working in the afternoon; we would have some on a Saturday.

“We have various permutations in terms of social distancing. What we really meant is that we reduce the number of students going into the workshops”

The other option she mentioned is utilising models. In this case, e-learning is deployed to show models of objects to students.

At the end, the government appeared to be settling for the first option as she said that resources are somewhat limited to cater for simulation practicals in TVET specifically.
